What is eBay Jail you ask?
What is eBay Jail you ask?
eBay has seller standards. You can be Top Rated, Above Standard or Below Standard. If you fall into Below Standard, sellers refer to it as eBay Jail.
So, we thought we'd share the top tips I’ve picked up, not just from eBay themselves but from our own team of listers who are live on eBay every day.
We’ve learned a thing or two along the way....
1. Tackle Buyer Issues Quickly
eBay loves it when sellers handle buyer concerns fast. Try to address questions or resolve problems with the first message. If a case closes without a fix from your end, it can hurt your seller rating—and that’s exactly what we’re avoiding.
2. Minimise Transaction Defects
Here’s the goal: on-time delivery and accurate descriptions. Late deliveries or mismatched details count as transaction defects. Keeping those low keeps your rating high, which is where we all want to be!
3. Reduce Late Shipment Rates
Promise a handling time, then stick to it like glue. Upload tracking info straight away - buyers appreciate the transparency, and it helps prevent those “item not received” cases that can nudge you closer to jail.
4. Watch ‘Item Not Received’ & ‘Item Not As Described’ Rates
Every month, eBay checks these rates and compares them to similar sellers. If they’re high, it could mean extra fees or even losing perks like eBay Plus. So, keep an eye on these metrics to dodge extra charges.
5. Check Your Seller Dashboard Regularly
Think of your dashboard as a quick performance check. Regularly monitoring it means you can fix issues early on and stay in good standing with eBay.
